REACTIVATE
BURWOOD

Elsie Street, Burwood NSW 2134

Our design approach for the Elsie Street site is grounded in the framework of Sustainable Temporary Adaptive Reuse (STAR), which advocates for the retention, adaptation, and reprogramming of existing structures. This strategy reduces embodied carbon, minimises demolition waste, and extends the lifecycle of the built environment.

STAR enables agile, low-impact architectural interventions that respond to shifting social, economic, and cultural needs. It supports a more resource-conscious and inclusive urban future, where existing spatial conditions are seen as opportunities rather than constraints. By applying spatial agency, we treat the site not as a blank canvas, but as an active framework for reactivation, using what is already there to drive regeneration.

This project is situated on the unceded lands of the Wangal people of the Eora Nation. We acknowledge their enduring custodianship and connection to place, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
